Updated: Kid’s kitchen made from old entertainment unit

I got very excited when the kitchen we made in my original post was featured on Childhood 101, and decided it might be a good idea to do an update on how it’s looking now. I found a calender from last year with beautiful pictures from around New Zealand that I figured would be perfect for the window. Only problem is it’s smaller than I wanted the window to be, but that’s okay because I like the idea of being able to change the picture in the window every now and then. I bought a photo frame on special for it and have made the curtains from a fat quarter of fabric that the kids chose. We covered and decorated some old formula tins and used them to make a shelf for the window to sit on. And of course you have to put pretty flowers in a vase on your window sill (home-made paper flowers on green straws).

We now have an oven door thanks to their daddy getting a pair of motocross boots which came in a great big box.  It even had a perfectly positioned hole for using to open and close the door.

We have some wonderful healthy food posters on the wall that their big sisters made, and they are really good at identifying fruit and vegetables now. Hopefully at some point that will translate into my son actually trying to eat real fruit and vegies!

It’s still a work in progress, but I’m loving the fact that my kids have so much input into how their kitchen looks.
