I really started wondering about this after an incident tonight. Honestly I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.
Let me set the scene…
Bathtime is over and I’m getting one child dried and dressed while the other runs around nudey rudey pretending she’s a butterfly. I am distracted by Home & Away the chattering of Master 3 and don’t notice the silence. Then little butterfly comes running in with her dolls going, “Look at dis”. I glance her way and nod and smile. It’s just her dolls so I make approving noises while my attention is still focussed on Home & Away Master 3.
And then it happens.
A bit of poo falls off one of the dolls’ hands onto the floor.
What the????
Closer inspection shows a large poo impaled on the hand of one dolly, and a smaller one on the other.
There’s poo smeared round the mouth of one of the dolls too.
Did she think the poo she had lovingly deposited on the kitchen floor would make a great snack for her dolls? Or was she using the dolls to clean up the mess so that she wouldn’t get her hands dirty?
After doing a bit of research I’m guessing this behaviour can be attributed to the hygiene avoidance ventricle, but then again, it’s possible my child is just plain weird.
What disgusting things have your toddlers done that make you go “Ewwwww”?
A little digging revealed that the picture was drawn by freelance artist Melissa Balmain and was published in Parenting Magazine in September 2003

Ha! Well, let’s see… My sons like to pee with one hand & eat a cookie with the other! (Thanks for linking up with }findingthefunny!)
And they probably swap hands halfway through too.
You could write a book like Darwin’s. “Origin of the Faeces”…
Hahahaha, yes I could. Amazing how many poo stories you collect when you have kids.
LOL excellent, Sue! Boy does that bring back some forgettable memories! “The poo chronicles”
)
Yes, they are best relegated into the forgotten memory folder up until they turn 21.

What is it with kids and poop? Mine have done such gross things as play in it and taste it. My almost-3 year old loves to pee in some out of the way place and then play in it, or encourage the baby to do so. When I ask her what she’s doing, she always says she is getting clean. Arg. I have also known her to eat food out of the garbage and off the street. It’s a wonder she doesn’t get sick more often.
And I love the drawing. Quite accurate, I think.
